UNDERCOVER, founded by Jun Takahashi in 1990 while studying at Tokyo's Bunka Academy of Fashion, embodies Japanese cool with a blend of rebellion and high-concept elegance. Takahashi's unconventional path bypassed traditional apprenticeships, drawing early influence from punk aesthetics and gaining mentorship from Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons. Operating under the mantra "We Make Noise Not Clothes," UNDERCOVER disrupts norms with unexpected materials, colors, and cuts that blur distinctions between high and low fashion, avant-garde and utilitarian, and the macabre and beautiful.
